The demands and expectations placed on the already overburdened members of North America’s small, rural, and remote fire departments increases with each passing day. We have done so much with so little for so long that more and more is expected of us.

Rural fire, rescue, and emergency medical responders are the first responders to virtually any emergency in the vast majority of North America. Because the challenges we face are unique, our methods of service delivery must by their very nature also be unique.

As a result of the issues and demands facing today’s rural emergency responders, the Rural Firefighting Institute has been created to serve those who protect the small, rural, and remote communities of North America.

The creation of the Rural Firefighting Institute (RFI) is providing unprecedented opportunities to Rural Emergency Responders to expand their relationships with their peers throughout North America, and to expand their knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide more effective and efficient service to those they serve while enhancing the safety of Rural Emergency Responders.
